Eyes Wide Open

July 1, 2017

How unconscious bias and long-standing assumptions passively affect the progress of women in the workplace was a constant theme this month.

Crown Resorts CEO Barry Felstead hosted a CEO Roundtable that was facilitated by ECU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Colleen Hayward.

It was a robust discussion as guest CEOs shared different views about the importance of diversity in senior leadership.

The Roundtable coincided with a report released by the Committee for Perth that highlighted women are severely underrepresented in C-Suite positions on the WA ASX 100.

Approximately 9.5% of C-Suite positions on the WA ASX 100 are held by women, with 90.5% held by men.

Why gender equity is good for everyone

"Turn up to any meeting on gender equality and the room will be full of women. Women talking to women about women.

When it comes to advancing women in the workplace, one of the biggest hurdles is men’s lack of interest. Men can’t see what the issue is.” - Dr Michael Kimmel.

Dr Kimmel will deliver a keynote address about recruiting men into gender equity and why it’s good for men, good for everyone and why it’s good for business.

The breakfast, hosted by BHP Billiton, is open to all members, with each member allocated four places. Expect an invitation in your inbox soon.
