WHY COMMIT TO GENDER EQUITY?
I am honoured to serve as the Principal of Guildford Grammar School an esteemed Pre-K-12 coeducational boarding and day school, where we are dedicated to fostering an environment of inclusivity, equity, and opportunity for all. As a leader, I recognise that commitment to gender equity starts from the top, and it is incumbent upon me to lead by example in championing this cause.
At the heart of Guildford Grammar School lies our deeply held purpose: To inspire students to achieve personal excellence and to be outstanding citizens who work to create a just, loving, and peaceful society. Within this purpose, the word 'just' carries great significance, symbolising our unwavering commitment to fairness and equity in all facets of our community including being a coeducational boarding and day school. We firmly believe that every individual, regardless of gender, deserves equal opportunities and respect.
Our School's Vision, where students learn to become independent thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators, resonates deeply with our commitment to gender equity. In a rapidly changing world, it's essential that we equip our students with the skills and mindset to navigate challenges and contribute meaningfully to society. Gender equity is fundamental to this vision, as it ensures that all students have equal opportunities to excel and pursue their passions.
Joining CEOs for Gender Equity provides Guildford Grammar with a platform to collaborate with like-minded leaders and organisations, amplifying our collective efforts to effect positive change. Guided by our Values of Excellence, Respect, Integrity, Spirituality, and Compassion, together, we can build a future where gender equity is not just a goal, but a reality. These values are not just ideals we uphold; they shape our purpose and inspire us to create an environment where every individual can thrive.
CEOs for Gender Equity is a natural extension of our School's Purpose, Vision and Values. It reflects our commitment to Excellence by striving to be at the forefront of promoting diversity and inclusion in the school and workplace. By becoming a member, we demonstrate our Respect for every individual, regardless of gender, and our dedication to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
Integrity is central to our decision to join. We believe in sticking to moral and ethical principles, even when it's challenging. By standing up for gender equity, we uphold our integrity and demonstrate our commitment to doing what is right, not just what is easy.
Spirituality, for us, is about fostering connections and embracing diversity. It's about recognising the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of gender. Joining CEOs for Gender Equity allows us to deepen these connections and work collaboratively with like-minded leaders to create a more inclusive and equitable world.
Compassion drives our efforts to promote gender equity. We recognise the importance of showing empathy and understanding towards those who have been marginalised or disadvantaged. We show our compassion for those who have been affected by gender discrimination and our determination to create positive change.
Becoming a member of CEOs for Gender Equity reflects our commitment to our School Vision and Values of Excellence, Respect, Integrity, Spirituality, and Compassion, and it provides us with an opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable world for all, in particular, for our students who are the future. With this step, we reaffirm our dedication to gender equity and our determination to ‘go forward’ in creating positive change.
