WHY COMMIT TO GENDER EQUITY?

At Communicare and White Ribbon Australia, our vision is a nation where every person is safe, included and connected. Achieving that vision means we must actively confront and dismantle gender inequality, because gender equity is not only a human right, it is foundational to the safety and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.

As CEO, I am deeply committed to leading this work with integrity, courage and compassion. At the heart of our purpose is a belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, free from violence, discrimination and exclusion. This cannot happen without addressing the systemic and cultural barriers that continue to disadvantage women and gender-diverse people, particularly those impacted by intersecting inequalities.
Through Communicare’s broad range of community services and the national platform of White Ribbon Australia, we work with men and boys, women and children, workplaces and communities to drive meaningful cultural and behavioural change. I see gender equity not just as an organisational priority, but as a critical lever in preventing violence before it starts.

We are making real and measurable commitments, from building inclusive, gender-balanced leadership and workplace cultures, to embedding trauma-informed, culturally safe practices across our services. We challenge outdated norms, amplify diverse voices and ensure our policies, recruitment and leadership development pathways enable equity, not just equality.

I am proud to lead an organisation that does not shy away from hard conversations and real accountability. As a female CEO in a sector where leadership has not always reflected the diversity of our communities, I see my role as one of responsibility and advocacy - to listen, to learn and to act.

My commitment to gender equity is deeply personal, grounded in the stories I have heard and the lives impacted by gender-based violence and injustice. I carry those stories with me every day. They fuel my responsibility to make things better, not just through words, but through systemic change, collaborative leadership and sustained action.

Gender equity is everyone’s responsibility. I believe we all have a role to play, and mine is to lead with purpose, humility and a relentless focus on a more just and inclusive future.
