WHY COMMIT TO GENDER EQUITY?
I believe organisations are better, more successful when they reflect the experiences of the societies they operate in. A balanced gender work environment brings with it the views of a larger society and the benefit of those broader views.
Whilst I see improvements being made across industry, scepticism still exists related to organisations "just hitting numbers for KPI's". However the right leadership focuses on behaviours and culture, not just the numbers.
My view is that, normalising a gender balanced work environment is key to positive outcomes. Developing behaviours, supported by measurement is more sustainable and successful than setting a KPI.
ERS has achieved balanced remuneration (male/female) over the past twelve months and progress is being made in external hiring as well as internal promotion, but I am most pleased with the behaviours of staff and their recognition of the benefits, performance and cultural, in a gender balanced work environment.
I am fortunate to have been associated with CGE since not long after its creation and see the progress being made through its advocacy and strong leadership.
