WHY COMMIT TO GENDER EQUITY?
I’ve always known I care about people and the impact we have. But only in recent years have I found the words for what really drives me - in business and in life - that is to change lives by building belief in possibilities.
Belief in people. Belief in industries. Belief in what’s possible when people come together.
At Rare, our agency's purpose is to create meaningful change with people at the heart. That commitment begins inside our own walls.
We often say we make brands more human.
To make a brand human is to give it heart. To craft something people don’t just see but feel. It’s the difference between a transaction and a connection. The difference between being recognised, remembered and loved.
But we can’t credibly make brands more human if we aren’t relentlessly committed to being more human ourselves.
Gender equity is fundamental to that commitment.
It is about ensuring every person - regardless of gender - has equal access to opportunity, recognition, reward, leadership, flexibility and voice. It is about creating an environment where people feel safe, respected and able to thrive. It’s about removing the conscious and unconscious barriers that limit belief.
Over the past few years, we have learned more about ourselves as a business. We have reflected. We have confronted areas where we needed to improve. And we have started the work, not because it’s required, but because it’s right.
As Managing Director, I know this responsibility sits first with me. It sits with our Board. It sits with our Senior Leadership Team. And ultimately, it belongs to all of us.
Creating meaningful change requires more than statements. It requires measurement, transparency, accountability and everyday behaviours that align with our values. It requires us to listen. To act. To evolve.
This includes regularly reviewing pay equity, leadership representation and progression pathways, and being transparent about where we are improving, and where we still have work to do.
I want Rare to be a place where gender equity isn’t treated as an initiative and instead is embedded in how we think, lead and make decisions every day. Where leadership is visible, accessible and representative. Where ambition in all its forms is encouraged and supported. Where flexibility is normalised, not negotiated. Where pay is fair, transparent and equitable.
A place where talent is recognised on merit, opportunities are distributed without bias, and belief in people is not influenced by gender.
Because when belief is equally distributed, potential is unlocked. And when potential is unlocked, meaningful change happens - not only for our people, but for the brands, communities and industries we serve.
This is the Rare we are building.
A business with heart. A culture with courage. A commitment that is lived, not simply written.
And I am proud to stand behind it.
